The two lions were donated to the City of Geelong. The plaque below the lion on the left is inscribed with :-
" Presented to the City of Geelong, in remembrance of Thomas and Agnes Clarke, Early pioneers of Victoria, by their daughter Florence.:
The plaque below the other is inscribed with:-
"Presented to the City of Geelong, by Mrs E.A.McDonald,in remembrance of her husband, Alderman Edward Allen McDonald O.B.E., and of her son Edward Colin McDonald
