Vermutlich ist die Burg im 9. bis 10. Jahrhundert erbaut worden worauf Funde slawischer Scherben hindeuten. 1179 wurde die Burg unter dem Herren Evererus von Lindau erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Den Landbewohnern diente die Burg beim Herannahen von Feinden, besonders während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges, als Fluchtburg. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurde die Burg ausgebaut und 1863 der Burgturm in der Zeit der askanischen Restauration durch Herzog Leopold Friedrich erneuert.

Presumably, the castle was built in the 9th to 10th century finds indicate what Slavic shards. In 1179 the castle was first mentioned under the Men Evererus of Lindau. The rural people served the castle at the approach of enemies, particularly during the Thirty Years' War, as a refuge.
