Some readers are confusing Davy Crockett with David Crockett. Davy is a silly guy created by Walt Disney to make some money. David was a real person, and the reason he was in Texas - which is not where a Tennessee Senator to Congress should have been - was that he was about to be impeached by the voters back home. Rather than face his fellow citizens, he rode off to Texas - and the rest is history. David is a real dude; Davy never existed.
