A sign accompanying the sculpture reads:

"Danger

Just 17,000 years ago, Homo floresiensis
struggled for survival on a small Indonesian
island, The species' tiny size enabled it
to cope with limited resources, but made
it vulnerable to large predators such as
Komodo dragons. Meanwhile our own
species was expanding throughout
the world."

The life-sized work depicts a lean individual, apparently an older woman, with arms outstretched as if fending off some danger. Her long strands of hair swerve with her quick movements.
The 2010 work is by John Gurche.

One of the photos on this website (visit link) featuring Gurche's works at the Museum has a photo of this one as well.
