"Boy Scouts dedicate Camp Kickapoo as John W. Nichols Scout Ranch
FROM STAFF REPORTS Published: May 13, 2010
The Last Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts of America dedicated the former Camp Kickapoo, SW 149 and County Line Road, as John W. Nichols Scout Ranch during ceremonies Saturday.
The dedication also was used to announce the completion of the $10 million capital campaign that was started in 2007 with David Rainbolt and Aubrey McClendon as co-chairmen.
Scout Executive Jeff Woolsey said $2 million will go into an endowment to ensure proper maintenance of the council’s camps, while the other $8 million will be used for brick-and-mortar camp improvements.
"Saturday was a great day for Scouting and we greatly appreciate the generosity of the Nichols family and all the other contributors to the capital campaign,” Woolsey said."
