Michael Galvin was a practicing attorney at the outset of World War II. As a member of the the U. S. Army Reserves he participated in the 1940 war games. As a result of his success he was mobilized and put in charge of Training and Intelligence in tank warfare. He served in the Third Army under the command of General Patton and chronicled the Division's history in Europe. After the war General Galvin served in the administrations of Presidents Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower and advised President Kennedy on the Cold War.

The bronze statue of depicts General Galvin in military dress uniform. He is standing on a pink granite pedestal on which is inscribed his name - GENERAL MICHAEL GALVIN. His right arm is at his side and he is holding his cap in his right hand while holding a baton in his left hand. A plaque on the pedestal of the statue is inscribed:

A son of Irish immigrants, General Michael Joseph Galvin graduated
from Charlestown Evening High School and Northeastern Law School
while helping his widowed mother support her nine children.
He became a Major General and the Commanding Officer
of the 94th Reserve Division of the U.S. Army.
General George Marshall referred to him as
"The outstanding reservist of World War II."
General Galvin was President Truman's Undersecretary of Labor.
He was elected to the Massachusetts Senate in 1962.
His contributions to our nation and dedication to civic duty
are an inspiration to future generations.
