A Confederate soldier in uniform, including a brimmed hat, stands on a tall pedestal atop a square base. His right hand holds the barrel of his rifle. The butt of the rifle rests by his right foot. Cannons protrude from east and west sides of base.

Sculpture was moved from the northeast corner of the square to the south side when the new courthouse was built. It was rededicated after replacement of a cannon on east side.
