"Am Südwestende des ehemaligen Dorfes Pötnitz befindet sich die heutige Kirche von Dessau-Mildensee. Der große Backsteinbau wurde um 1180 als dreischiffige Basilika errichtet. Noch heute ist der romanische Baustil zu erkennen, obwohl im Laufe der Zeit Umbauten an der Kirche vorgenommen wurden. Mit der Gründung eines Benediktiner Konvents in Mildensee wurde die Kirche 1198 vom Reichskloster in Nienburg zur Pfarrkirche erhoben.[1]

Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts ließ Fürst Franz von Anhalt durch seinen Baumeister Carlo Ignazio Pozzi die Kirche in ihrer heutigen Form gestalten.

Seit Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs befinden sich drei Gemälde aus der ehemaligen Schlosskirche St. Marien im Kirchraum, da die Schlosskirche ausgebombt wurde. Das bekannteste ist wohl das Abendmahlbild von Lucas Cranach dem Jüngeren aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. In der Abendmahlgemeinschaft mit Jesus sind die Reformatoren des Wittenberger Kreises - unter ihnen Luther und Melanchthon - und Mitglieder der fürstlichen Familie dargestellt.

An einer Ecke der Kirche befindet sich das Grab von Christian Gebhard Nordmann, dem auf dem Friedhof auch ein Gedenkstein gewidmet ist."

At the southwest end of the former village Pötnitz is the present church of Dessau-Mildensee. The large brick building was built in 1180 as a three-aisled basilica. Even today, the Romanesque style can be seen, although over time modifications were made to the church.
