Zaterdag werd op het Molenpoortplein in Hasselt een nieuw kunstwerk onthuld. Het bronzen beeldje van ongeveer anderhalve meter hoog werd ontworpen door de Hasseltse kunstenaar Luc Steegen en belooft eeuwige roem aan alle jonge sportwinnaars van de Ambassador Award.
Het initiatief kwam van de Ambassador Club Hasselt, een vriendenclub van mannen die elke twee jaar de award uitreikt aan een verdienstelijke jonge Hasseltse sportpersoonlijkheid, die zich in de voorbije twee jaar als een ware ambassadeur van de stad Hasselt toonde. "Na zes keer de prijs te hebben uitgereikt, was het een droom om van dat klein beeldje een standbeeld te maken. Het beeld stelt een overwinnaar voor op een podium van de hoofdletter Ambassador. Hij of zij heeft een overwinningsboeket in de handen en aan de voeten de symbolische hazelaarsvruchten en blaadjes die Hasselt vertegenwoordigen." (ERS)
