The anvil can be seen, safely, from the south west side of the High Street or the pedestrianised area around the war memorial in the centre of the High Street. The anvil was placed there to "advertise" a business in the shop below at street level which, at the time, was an ironmongers. The business has gone but this symbol of the past remains.
