There are two plaques on the house. The upper plaque reads:

"This house was built circa 1809 by Francis Xavier Sanchez and his wife, Mary Hill of Charleston, lately of Virginia. That is the probable reason for the English Colonial interior rather than the usual Spanish."

The lower plaque on the house reads:

"This house was retouched for posterity by the Independent Life Insurance Company through its board of directors:
Jacob F. Bryan III, chairman
Wilford C. Lyon, Sr. • Cecil B. Carroll
James H. Stanley • Burton C. Bryan
G. Howard Bryan • William A. Howard
Charles A. Snead • George M. Baldwin
J. Alex Howard • Lucy B. Gooding
Richard M. Lyon • Virginia Y. Hendry"
