This train depot was originally built on land purchased by the Northwestern Railroad and then later by the Davenport-Rock Island and Northwestern Railroad. The Chicago-Milwaukee-St. Paul bought the property in 1879. The first depot agent was Phineas Curtis, the first engine was “Old Eagle,” and the last train through was the “Dixon Bumblebee.”

Built in 1870 the depot operated for 100 years before being purchased privately and donated to the Walnut Grove Pioneer Village in 1977. The building was moved to the present grounds, renovated a year later and is now open to tourists visiting the historical village.
