Located in Lake County, South Dakota, just south of SD Highway 34, Lake Herman has two public access areas. One located on the west side of the lake and the other on the east side, within the boundaries of Lake Herman State Park. A permit is required to use the boat access in the park.
The lake is a nice sized lake with recreation and fishing capabilities. Since it is only a few miles from Madison, it is easily accessed by boaters and fishermen.
Numerous camping sites are available in the park and on the west side of the lake is Camp Lakodia, which was founded as a 4-H campground in 1941, by WPA.
Today, Camp Lakodia serves as a camp and a retreat opportunity for abused and neglected childrem.
