"La Chiesa di San Domenico è tra più imponenti edifici del centro storico. Fu realizzata nel XIII secolo, lungo il canale Padenna, al centro della città, contestualmente alla realizzazione di un convento domenicano.
Era dotata nella facciata di archi ogivali, ancora oggi visibili ai lati del portone d'ingresso (tre per parte), ove venivano riposte le sepolture.
Nel XVIII secolo l'edificio subì un radicale rifacimento su disegno di Gianbattista Contini.
L'aula interna è a un'unica navata, con sei cappelle, tre per lato, e una settima a sinistra dell'abside. Pitture frammentarie d'età medievale si conservano nella sacrestia e nella cappella del campanile, accanto a opere firmate da grandi artisti locali databili al periodo tardo-rinascimentale e neoclassico (Camillo Morigia, Andrea Barbiani, Luca Longhi, Nicolò Rondinelli)." "The Church of San Domenico is one of the most imposing buildings in Ravenna. The church and its adjacent Dominican monastery was erected in the 13th century in the city centre, along the Padenna channel. The façade was adorned with six pointed arches, three on each side of the entrance (still visible today), that once contained sarcophagi.
During the 18th century, the building was completely renewed by architect Gianbattista Contini.
Inside the single-nave church there are seven chapels, three on each side of the nave and one to the left of the apse. Fragments of medieval fresco-paintings are preserved in the sacristy and in the bell tower chapel. The church also hosts Late Renaissance and neoclassical works by major Ravenna painters, such as Camillo Morigia, Andrea Barbiani, Luca Longhi and Nicolò Rondinelli." (

"Die Kirche San Domenico ist eine der imposantesten Bauten der Stadt. Zusammen mit dem anliegenden dominikanischen Kloster wurde sie im 13. Jahrhundert im Stadtzentrum errichtet, den Padenna Kanal entlang. Die Fassade des Gebäudes wurde ursprünglich mit Spitzbogen verziert, die noch sichtbar an den Seiten der Eingangstür sind.
Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde das Gebäude von Gianbattista Contini gründlich renoviert. Der Innenraum ist in drei Schiffen geteilt und hat sechs seitliche Kapellen, drei auf jeder Seite des Schiffes und eine links von der Apsis. Fragmente von mittelalterlichen Fresken und Werke von den großen einheimischen Künstlern der Spätrenaissance und dem Neoklassizismus (wie Camillo Morigia, Andrea Barbiani, Luca Longhi und Nicolò Rondinelli) sind in der Sakristei und in der Kapelle des Glockenturms noch erhalten." "L’Église de San Domenico est l’un des édifices les plus grands du centre historique. Elle fut bâtie au XIIIème siècle, le long du fleuve Padenna, au centre de la ville, en même temps qu’un couvent dominicain.
La façade de l’église présentait des arcs en ogive, que vous pourrez admirer encore aujourd’hui à côté du portal d’entrée (trois de chaque côté), ils étaient utilisés pour les inhumations.
Au XVIIIème siècle, l’édifice subit un remaniement complet grâce au travail de Gianbattista Contini. L’église présente une seule nef, six chapelles, trois de chaque côté, une septième se trouve à gauche de l’autel. Des fragments de peintures du Moyen Âge sont conservés dans la sacristie et dans la chapelle du clocher, à côté d’œuvres d’époque néoclassique et de la tarde Renaissance, signées par de célèbres artistes locaux comme Camillo Morigia, Andrea Barbiani, Luca Longhi ou Niccolò Rondinelli."
