The plaque says, At 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2001, atop 1 Times Square, outgoing New York City Mayor Rudolph Giulianai ushered in the New Year by pressing a button that releases an illuminated crystal ball memorializing the victims of 9/11 and honor first responders. Six feet in diameter and weighing 1,070 pounds, the 2001 Times Square Ball was composed of 504 Waterford crystal triangles.
Inscriptions on the crystals acknowledged losses from the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and abroad all four hijacked flights, as well as the first responder agencies and the home countries of the victims. The engraved tallies of those presumed dead were estimates, reflecting incomplete knowledge at that moment in time."

Visit Instructions:
You must, of course, physically visit the waymark. Posting a photo of your visit is good, but try and take a photograph of the site distinct from an existing photo—a different angle, or something overlooked by previous visitors. Include a short description of your visit: was the ball or cannon in use, a popular tourist destination, anything new added, anything changed? Work towards keeping the waymark current.
