The Visitors Center for the Torrey Pines State Reserve doubles as a Nature Center and Museum.
In a partially sheltered area outside the Center is this display of tree rings. The accompanying placard discusses the rings...and one factoid was particularly interesting- "See how the center of the rings is off-center?
The side where the rings are narrowest is the side that faced the ocean and its constant wind and salt. The opposite side was more sheltered from the wind, so it was able to grow more."
