A Maximis Ad Minima - A large bronze sculpture, measuring 132 cms (H) x 250 cms (L) x 122 cms (W). A Part-abstract/ part- figurative sculpture, with many apparently individual geometric shapes & objects including, larger than life, Hands & Feet. Located in front of the Princess of Wales, conservatory, in Kew Gardens.
Inscription on bronze plaque set into stone paving around base of plinth:
"A MAXIMIS AD MINIMA/(FROM THE GREATEST TO THE LEAST)/ CREATED AND DONATED BY/ SIR EDUARDO PAOLOZZI/ 1998/ CASTING FUNDED BY ALLIED DUNBAR PLC"
From the 'Public Monuments & Sculpture Association' website:
"Large bronze work composed of multiple abstract, figurative and mechanical elements assembled together on a shallow two tiered base. Includes rectangles, squares, planar, volumetric and curving forms, two feet, two hands (holding a set of cylindrical handles/gears), a geometric head, a shere with geometric shapes cut out of it, discs, shafts, wheels and planks of wood. Mounted on a low stone plinth.
Cast and partly constructed by students at the Royal College of Art with funds organised by Lady Renfrew.
Related to Paolozzi's work 'The Wealth of Nations' at South Gyle in Edinburgh which stands opposite the headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland." Text Source: (
