Allgemein: "Caput limitis", der Kopf des Limes, wurde dieser Ort schon von Tacitus in der Antike genannt. Ein historischer Ort, von dessen Bedeutung man heute leider nicht mehr viel sieht. Auf der westlichen Seite des Rheins, mündet der Vinxtbach, der schon in der Antike die Grenze zwischen den römischen Provinzen Ober- und Untergermanien darstellte. Hier, auf der östlichen Seite, begann der Limes als Grenze zwischen dem römischen Germanien und dem "freien" Germanien. Die Sicherung dieses Abschnitts übernahm zu damaliger Zeit, das Kleinkastell Rheinbrohl, welches heute aber nicht mehr sichtbar ist. Im Jahr 1972 wurde durch die Gemeinde Rheinbrohl, nahe des tatsächlichen Standortes von Wachturm 1/1, aus den Überresten verschiedener Wachtürme, dieser Limesturm rekonstruiert. Inwiefern dieser nun dem Original entsprach, sei mal dahingestellt. Auch hier streiten sich die Experten ob der Turm nun originalgetreu ist oder nicht. Neben dem Turm findet man eine Grabinschrift, die an den römischen Feldzeichenträger Pintaius erinnert. Die Inschrift lautet: "Pintaius Pedilici f(ilius), Astur trans montanus castel(l)o Intercatia, signifer c(o)ho(rtis) V Asturum, anno(rum) XXX stip(endiorum) VII, h(eres) ex t(estamento) f(aciendum) c(uravit), ave" Übersetzung: " Pintaius, Sohn des Pedilicus, aus dem Kastell Intercatia in Asturien, hinter dem Berg, Feldzeichenträger der Cohors V Asturum, 30 Jahre alt, 7 Jahre im Dienst. Sein Erbe hat hiermit das Testament erfüllt. Grüsse. " Der genaue Fundort des Grabsteins ist unbekannt. Das Original befindet sich im rheinischen Landesmuseum in Bonn.
