It seems that no matter how many times one passes through a small town there will always be another waymark.

It didn't seem that long since we had driven around Fruitvale, but, there it was, a brand new community garden, just down the street from the village office. Fenced with chain link fencing and covered in wood chips, it was obviously new, it wasn't as though we had simply missed it on previous visits.
On the gate is posted a little sign noting the names of those assigned to each garden bed, while inside are a bunch (15 to be exact) of raised beds. Several are made of heavy cedar timbers, while the majority were made of vinyl fencing material. This seemed to us to be a cracker jack of an idea. They will never rot and they're white, meaning that, while the beds won't warm up quite as quickly in the spring, neither will they get overly hot in the summer. Great idea!!
In the back one of the larger beds has been allotted to the food bank. Strangely, it has been planted entirely in garlic. The garlic was looking really good, BTW, meaning that it was planted, as it should be, last fall.
