Bazylika archikatedralna Swietych Apostolów Piotra i Pawla w Poznaniu (Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul) in Poznan is is one of the oldest churches in the country and the first Polish church, that was dedicated a cathedral. It was built in the second half of the 10th century. The precise date is not known, but Poland's first historical ruler, Mieszko I was baptized here in 966.
In 968 Jordan, Poland's first bishop, raised the church's status to cathedral. As the first cathedral in the country, it received the right to have the same patron saint as St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
