Vež byla postavena pravdepodobne v dobe po zániku nedalekého hradu Mladá Vožice v roce 1425. Dnešní podoba je výsledkem prestavby v roce 1904.
Budova mela v historii mnoho funkcí – krome toho, že sloužila jako hláska bylo v prízemí skladište soli, nad ním místnosti sloužící jako radnice a šatlava, v nejvyšším užívaném patre byl byt mestského zrízence, který dohlížel na bezpecnost mesta. Po zániku drevené mestské zvonice byly ve veži zavešeny kostelní zvony. Vezení sloužilo do roku 1853, radnice do roku 1872, požární zbrojnice, která v prízemí nahradila sklad soli do roku 1953.
Podle povesti byl v Žižkove síni veže ubytován Jan Žižka po dobytí mesta roku 1420.

About town
The history of the town dates back to the 13th century. In 1420 the Hussites won in one of the first battles. After the Thirty Years' War the town and its surroundings declined. The development started after the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic (1918).
About tower
The tower had a many functions - except that it served as a watchtower was on the ground floor warehouse of salt, above the room served as the town hall and jail. Gothic bell tower was reconstructed into the present appearance at the beginning of the 20th century.
