This is one of the most restrictive tunnels still in use on the canal system today. Very few boats are low enough to get through hence the warnings and measuring boards at the entrance and at the final lock before entering the tunnel pound.
It is one way only and has no towpath.
The north east portal does not have a profile indicator as boats must have come through from the south west in the first instance. The canal terminates just beyond the tunnel. It did use to continue for another 12 miles to Uttoxeter.
