This 1954 Latin-Colonial house, designed by prolific Houston architect John F Staub and donated to the Museum of Fine Arts by Ross Sterling heiress Carroll Masterson, is, ostensibly, the MFAH's Museum of European Decorative Arts. There is an extensive collection of European porcelain, but the house stands as more of a memorial to Mrs Masterson herself, with oh-so-gay docents regaling you of tales of how wealthy and kind the Mastersons were, the faaab-u-lous parties they threw, the oh-so-famous people they knew, and how they just ‘dripped diamonds.’
