The sign says, "This trail cuts across Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, passing sites that represent many of the values for which this park was created, such as malama ka 'aina, caring for the land. This was a place where Hawaiian families lived, values and traditions were promoted, and the importance of family and caring for one another were taught. As you walk to the shore, keep your senses alert for things to see, feel, and small, and keep your mind open to the spirt of those who lived here long ago."
