The post and cable project keeps visitors on the trail to ensure they don't harm a patch of Rosemary Scrub habitat as they pass by. A brass plaque on one of the posts reads:

Troop 417

Jacksonville Arboretum
A sign at the entrance to the post and cable area includes the following information:
The Rosemary Scrub
Welcome to the rosemary scrub - one of Duval County's natural treasures. In colonial days, this habitat covered all the sandy ridges left behind as the sea level fell thousands of years ago. Since then, humans have developed the uplands and the rosemary scrub has become one of Florida's most endangered habitats.
