The bulk of the establishment extends down the east side of Anglesea Street and comprises several connected buildings. The second building down, easily identifiable with a statue of Oliver St John Gogarty and James Joyce outside, has a stone set into the brick wall between the ground and first floors with the year 1941 shown on it. In between the "19" and "41" is carved the words "eire" and, beneath it, "CAR".
It is not know for what purpose the building was constructed but, by looks alone, it could have been a grand house or, more likely, a hotel.
Year of construction: 1941
