The Old Spanish National Historic Trail was a trade route that linked New Mexico with Los Angeles. It travelled through some of the harshest terrain in the continental US.
The obelisk-style marker indicates where the trail passed through this area from 1829-1848.
There are currently 7 Old Spanish Trail information kiosks located along the route from Mesquite to Las Vegas, and further to the California border.
The Old Spanish National Historic Trail is jointly managed by the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
