In his right hand, he holds a pen and in the other, the Emancipation Proclamation. His proper left arm is bent at the elbow and his proper left foot is forward. As a symbol of the Union, the fasces, the Roman badge of authority is placed near his feet, covered by the glorious banner of the Republic. Reclining on the fasces is the crown of Laurel. Lincoln stands above the United States Coat of Arms and above and between depictions of the infantry group and the cavalry group with depiction of the naval or marine group and the artillery group on the other side of the monument.
Dimensions: Approx. H. 8 ft. 6 in. (4,862 lbs.). Inscription:L. G. MEAD/AMES FOUNDRY/CHICOPEE signed Founder's mark appears.
Sixty-five old cannons were donated by the Federal Government to be melted down for casting materials for these pieces. This piece is one of six pieces on the monument done by Larkin G. Mead.
