Sitting back off the road quite aways is the old plant built in 1924. The Branch River Woolcombing Company was an offshoot of the Woonsocket wool mills. This site was easily accessible by street car and provided abundant labor, making it a nature compliment to the Woonsocket mills. At its peak in manufacturing the plant employed 600+ workers. The mill closed its doors in 1973. Today the factory is Banneker Industries a fulfillment processing center as well as other firms.
