The Fine Arts Theater was originally constructed in the 1880s as an opera house. In the 1940s, three movie theaters operated on the west side of the downtown square. The Fine Arts was known as the Texas Theater at that time. The original murals are still inside the building. One shows an elephant next to the Eiffel Tower.
