The Metacomet-Monadnock, M-M, Trail is a 114 mile long hiking trail that extends from the Massachusetts/Connecticut border in Agawam, MA and to the top of Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire.
Section 3 begins on the north side of the Westfield River. Since the Westfield River cannot usually be forded, through hikers must make the long walk detour along roads west on MA 187 to the US 20 bridge and then back east to the intersection of Route 20 and Old Westfield Road and the trailhead of section 3 northbound. It has been relocated to east of the active Lane Quarry.
For day hikers, parking is in the large parking lot on the south side of Route 20. This section of trail starts at the northwest corner of Route 20 and Old Westfield Road. It continues along Old Westfield Road then turns then left onto Sikes Avenue and again left into the woods as it begins to climb. It then passes past the Pioneer Valley Sportsman's Club and climbs to the top of the ridge of East Mountain.
