The text below is taken from The Citizen newspaper, 15 May 1902, page 3.
After a lingering illness of many months duration Mr. Thomas P. Desjardins, the well known notary of Hull, passed away last evening. Death occurred about 8.15 o'clock at the family residence, Victoria street. Deceased, who was in his 60th year, had been in failing health for some time and unable to attend to any office duties. He had resided in Hull for 15 years, previous to which time he lived at Gatineau Point. Mr. Desjardins held several important offices. For years he was secretary-treasurer of Wright county, commissioner of the superior court, notary public and justice of the peace. It was as secretary-treasurer of the county, however, that he was best known. It is doubtful, in fact, if any professional man in the district was better known. Until his last illness Mr. Desjardins attended to the duties of the office. In his dealings with the public he was always courteous and correct and it will be a difficult matter to fill the position his death has made vacant. Since the great fire of April 1900, Mr. Desjardins has occupied the block on Victoria street directly facing the City Hall square. Previous to the fire he was located on Main street. He was a member of the congregation of Notre Dame De Grace church and was also connected with St. Thomas society. He leaves a grown-up family of three daughters and two sons, Mrs. (Dr.) Mousseau, of Bryson, is a daughter. Mr. Henri Desjardins and Mr. C. Desjardins are sons. Mr. Arthur Desjardins, advocat, is a nephew.
