Josef Gilles(1931–2009)is a inofficial freeman of the village Kelz.
At his 70th birthday the sculpture was erected.
First, the sculptor and restorer H. Ewald Blaeser from Kleinhau Hürtgenwald made a plaster model at a scale of 1: 1.
Then Firma Simons Metallguß GmbH made the original sculpture from cast metal.
