The first mill built was in 1824 to establish a scythe factory. This remained the dominant industrial force until 1860 when the second mill in the area was built for cotton manufacturing. Both mills have since been destroyed thru decay and fire. Today the area is mainly residential properties. The store and post office building was built in 1858 and is in use today. The entire district has between 50 and 60 contributing properties.
