The Oregon Trunk Railway Undercrossing at Franklin Avenue at Franklin Avenue was built in 1936 under a co-operative agreement by the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads and the Oregon State Highway Commission to improve traffic flow through Bend on U.S. Hwy. 97. In the mid-1960s Hwy. 97 was rerouted out of the downtown area and the underpass was no longer used by the highway. In 2001 the new Bend Parkway (new route for Hwy. 97) was openned and it crosses over Franklin Avenue adjacent to the railroad making use of the underpass also.
