EN: Wartenfels Castle is located on a wooded hill northwest of Lostorf. The site is visible from afar and is considered a landmark of the Niederamt region.

The early history of the castle is unknown. Wernher von Wartenfels was first mentioned in 1250 as the owner. After the extinction of the family of Wartenfels, the castle came into the possession of the lords von Tengen, then von Rosenberg and in 1458 to Heirich of Bubenberg who sold it to the city of Solothurn in 1465. Solothurn used the castle as the seat of the bailiff of the bailiwick Gösgen.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the medieval castle was transformed into a country estate with a castle chapel and a baroque park.

The castle is open for visitors every Sunday during the summer. In addition, events will take place and it can be rented e.g. for weddings.

DE: Das Schloss Wartenfels befindet sich auf einem bewaldeten Hügel nordwestlich von Lostorf. Die Anlage ist von weitem sichtbar und gilt als ein Wahrzeichen der Region Niederamt.

Die frühe Geschicht der Burg ist unbekannt. Wernher von Wartenfels wurde 1250 als Besitzer erstmals erwähnt. Nach dem Erlöschen der Familie von Wartenfels kam die Burg in den Besitz der Herren von Tengen, dann von Rosenberg und 1458 an Heirich von Bubenberg, der sie 1465 an die Stadt Solothurn verkaufte. Von Solothurn wurde die Burg als Sitz des Landvogts der Vogtei Gösgen benutzt.

Im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert wurde die mittelalterliche Burg von den Besitzern zu einem Landsitz mit einer Schlosskapelle und einer barocken Parkanlage umgebaut.

Das Schloss ist während des Sommers jeweils am Sonntag für Besucher geöffnet. Daneben werden auch Veranstaltungen durchgeführt und es kann z.B. für Hochzeiten gemietet werden.
