The cathedral was built between 1843 and 1846 on grounds of an old temple. By that time this cathedral was the biggest of the eastern orthodox churches in Bialystok. Since 1951 is the cathedral part of the Diocese of Bialystok-Gdansk. The building represents the classical style, typical of the architecture of Orthodox Russian Empire.
