About Schildmeer:
The lake has an average depth of 1.5 meters and covers an area of ??284 hectares. It belongs to the municipality of Slochteren . The bulk of the shores of the lake is natural . At Steendam are facilities for recreation such as marinas and associated activities, a sandy beach, restaurants, campgrounds and a bungalow. On the south side of the lake lies the Haan Sluice who Haan Vaart connect and more for smaller ships and barges together. The south, west and northwest are part of the nature area Middle Groningen , which continues to Kolham.
