Hess Cemetery was named after the owner who donated the land that it occupied. There were no Hess family members buried here. The oldest grave stone that I found was well weathered and I believe the year was 1855, but the month and day were worn away.

This cemetery has been taken over by a local prairie group. They work to keep invasive weeds under control. Every couple years the grass is burned off to destroy brush and weed seeds.

Names on some of the gravestones are Sarigle, Thomas, and Butcher. The Butcher family tree is memorialized on 4 sides of one stone. Calvin L. Butcher married and had a daughter, she died at the age of 2 months. His wife passed away a couple years later. The stone also shows that he remarried, had a son who also died at the age of 2 months, He had a son, by which wife is unknown, who died in the civil war. Calvin passed away in 1893 and his second wife followed him 2 years later.

Earliest Burial: 01/01/1855

Latest Burial: 02/08/1908
