At the pedestrian bridge between the town hall and the train station, on the left of the main entrance of the German Finance Agency, stands since 2009 the sculpture "Melancholia I" by the Dutch artist Hanneke Beaumont (*1947). Originally placed during the exhibition "Blickachsen 7", it was then purchased by the city of Bad Homburg.
The installation - inspired by Albrecht Dürer's engraving "Melancholia I" from 1514 - consists of two nearly life-sized figures, each kneeling on their own minimalistic steel base. The finished black bronze figure Melancholia is observing her own image in cast iron, with its rough, unworked surface.
