The Leighton Battery Heritage Site at Buckland Hill, Mosman Park was one of the key strategic defence lines in Perth during the war. Buckland Hill was used during the war for observation and to signal vessels on route through Gage Roads between the mainland and Rottnest Island. Below the hill are over 300m of tunnels, up to 10m deep in parts that housed a variety of ammunition, communications, gun crew rest areas and observation posts
A Engineering Heritage National Marker was awarded to the Leighton Battery on June 23rd 2014
The tunnels are open to the public each Sunday from 1000 to 1500 with guided tours every 30 minutes
