If you love hockey, you will enjoy this mural. The Smoke Eaters are Trail's Minor League team.
The Smoke Eaters mural is depicting Trail Hockey History in a grand scale. The mural covers the west wall of the Trail Memorial Centre. It is very well done and is by artists Steven Skolka and Tyler Toews in 2005. They also did the mural on the east wall of the Trail Memorial Centre, River Reconnect, one of the largest in western Canada.
A little history about the Smoke Eaters:
In 1912, Trail boasted its first organized hockey team which competed in the local league. The first senior amateur team was established in 1926. This season marked the first provincial triumph for the team, soon to be known as the Trail Smoke Eaters, winning the Savage Cup, emblematic of British Columbia senior hockey supremacy, for the first time.
In Years to come, the Trail Smoke Eaters would capture the Savage Cup eighteen more times, the most of any team in British Columbia. They also won two Allan Cups and two World Championships. Trail's Smoke Eaters is the only home town team in Canada to achieve this distinction.
The Smoke Eaters are still active, though now as a Junior A team, Memorial Centre still being their home arena.
