The waymarked sign is along the SH 288/South Freeway northbound (towards downtown) from its junction with the Loop 610 freeway on the south side of Houston.
The US 90 Alt follows the route of the famous 1920s Old Spanish Trail auto route between Beaumont and Houston. In Houston, the OST name is preserved through much of the city, but as the US 90 Alt/Old Spanish Trail winds though south Houston, it joins South Main Street and is known by that name south to the interchange with the US 59 near Sugarland.
