Millions of people lined the streets around Westminster Abbey to watch the Queen's Coronation in 1953.

Communities across the UK decorated their streets with yards of bunting and held parties in honour of the new monarch.

Streets up and down the nation participated in competitions for best decorated street, and Shakespeare Street in Loughborough, according to the plaque, was awarded that honour by the Loughborough Monitor, a local newspaper at that time.
