Bridge 115 On The Leeds Liverpool Canal - Altham, UK - Moving Bridges on Waymarking.com

The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.

The bridge is known as Foster swing bridge and was built as an accommodation bridge for nearby farms. It is a balanced cantilever swing bridge

"John Powell reports that the 1965 BW bridge survey recorded this bridge as a timber swing bridge owned by British Waterways. It had a span of 40 ft over a clear waterway width of 17 ft 6 inches. It has subsequently been replaced by a steel swing bridge." link
