The coordinates for this waymark were taken at the main entrance to the Ferncliff Mausoleum. Ed Sullivan’s crypt is located in Unit 8, Alcove G, Crypt 122 of the Ferncliff Mausoleum. This is a very large mausoleum and even with a map I had to have help in locating crypt. Note: Actress Joan Crawford (visit link) is entombed in the adjacent hall.

Edward Vincent Sullivan was born on September 28, 1901 in New York City. He attended high school in the New York City area where he developed an interest in journalism, writing for the school paper. After graduation he pursued a career in journalism where he worked for the Associated Press. In 1929 he became the Broadway columnist for The Evening Graphic and in the early 1930’s he moved on to become a popular columnist for the New York Daily News. In the mid-1930’s Sullivan’s interest shifted to vaudeville where he became a producer and served as master of ceremonies for a number of shows. On January 6, 1957, Elvis Presley appeared on the show but was filmed only from waste up because network executives thought his gyrations was too lewd for a family audience. One of the most watched shows in TV history was the February 9, 1964 when the Ed Sullivan Show hosted the U. S. Television debut of The Beetles. Through his career, Sullivan broke new ground in entertainment, by hosting such acts as The Temptations, The Jackson 5, and the Rolling Stones.
