The bridge is a stone single arch bridge and has a circular opening in each buttress.

It used to carry the A5145 over the River Mersey, but now carries the National Cycle Route 62 over the river.

The south east end of the bridge is flanked by Ye Old Woolpack pub and an electric substation with an attached river gauge.

Opposite the north west end of the bridge is a modern office building in the shape of a pyramid.

Bollards at each end of the bridge prevent vehicular access to the bridge.
