Depicted greenhouse, the main greenhouse of Buenos Aires Botanical Garden (Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires), is unique Art Nouveau structure belonging among National Historic Landmarks of Argentina.
The waymarked greenhouse, the eldest and the biggest of five greenhouses in the Botanical Garden, was awarded at the Paris World Exhibition in 1899. This 35 m long and 8 wide unique steel-glass Art Nouveau structure was dismantled and moved to Buenos Aires in 1900. It serves as a shelter for many species of tropical plants, such as ferns (nearly a thousand specimens), orchids and palm trees. In April 1996 it was declared a National Historic Landmark.
Buenos Aires Botanical Garden is located in Palermo district of the Argentinian capital. The Garden, triangular in shape, is surrounde by Santa Fe Avenue, Las Heras Avenue and República Árabe Siria Street in Palermo, couple meters from Zoological garden. The Garden with a total area of 7 hectares, is holding approximately 5 500 species of plants, trees and shrubs, as well as a number of sculptures, monuments and five greenhouses.
