The images span a variety of subjects, much of it summarized in the script on the west-facing side that reads "patriarchs, priests, fathers, and judges." The images are semi-religious symbols and classic art peppered with modern day icons, such as neon lights and commercial references. The north side bears the word circus. All-in-all, this is a beautiful and entertaining piece of art work.
It is located on the north-east corner of L Street and 15th Street, with the capitol park just across the street. The artist describes the work as "digital photography and collage." His other works are shown at the web pages listed above.
The artist notes:
"All elements featured on the box are located within the Downtown and Midtown neighborhoods of Sacramento, were themselves photographed by me, and can be found by individuals with a sharp eye.
For example, the neon 'patriarch, priest, father, and judge' is a sign located inside the nearby Hock Farm restaurant, and the large lion face can be found on the outside walls of the Downtown Sacramento Library."
