In 1975 BC Rail opened the Horseshoe Bay Tunnel that straightened the railway. This stretch of the original railbed was set aside as rails-to-trail.

This is one of the many undocumented rails-to-trails that exist in British Columbia, a short 2 km | 1.25 mile stretch of railbed that has been converted to people walking and cycling.

Back in the 1920s the Pacific Great Eastern built the line from North Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay with the intention of getting as far as Prince George. However with the ruggedness of Howe Sound and the easier way of barging railcars to Squamish the management of the PGE put off going beyond this point. With low useage this section fell into disuse.

Then in the 1950s the British Columbia government took over the PGE and began construction in two vital areas - Horseshoe Bay to Squamish and Quesnel to Prince George. The residents along the line never thought the railway through West Vancouver would come back in service and many had expanded their gardens onto the right-of-way over the previous thirty years. The government took back all the land.

This stretch saw rail traffic from the 1950s until 1975 when the government funded the building of the Horseshoe Bay Tunnel. The District of West Vancouver took ownership of this stretch and turned into a walking trail with a sewer line running underneath.

There are views of the sea as promised by the name Seaview Walk, but these are relatively few and best viewed during the winter when the foliage is gone. Nevertheless it a great trail with a wonderful bit of history behind it.
